Purpose of Mission of Law
Mr. Justice Chinnappa Reddy, a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, speaking of law in his foreword to the book "Justice and Beyond" written by Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, eminent Jurist and former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, says "Law does not exist for its own sake. It is related to social situations and functions in relation to objectives and attitudes lying outside the law. Social institutions, objectives and attitudes are in a
constant state of flow and law cannot hold the allegiance of a dynamic society, if it remains a backwater removed from urgent social and economic problems. Law must herald a social change - it must meet the challenges of future and become an instrument of social engineering and vehicle for realisation of the hopes and aspirations of all men."
Mr. Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India says in his book "Justice and Beyond" that "Law after all has such and encyclopaedic range and cosmic sweep that its sublime artistic and architectural vision are woefully missed by the myrid artisans who with their rusty toolkit and professional attire Linker and hay bricks with mechanic littleness while the profound spiritual depths, the power of social engineering and the creative and enduring passion for justice and beyond beckon to them to play a dynamic role in the society."
There is hardly any part of our national life or of our personal lives that is not affected by one law or the other. The affairs of Government, Central and State, legal authorities, nationalised industries and banks, public corporations and undertakings, private commerce, transport and police authorities are regulated by legislation. The life of ordinary citizen is affected by various laws from the cradle to the grave.
According to the one eminent jurist, "Law in our today's society must be simple, clear, reasonable, ascertainable as otherwise it deprives a lay citizen of his basic rights and becomes needlessly expensive and wasteful".
